Reviving the Sounds of Awadh: Folk Singer Sarita Tiwari to Provide Free Training to Rural Women and Girls

Sitapur – In an era dominated by modern influence, a significant step has been taken to preserve and rejuvenate the fading cultural heritage of the Awadh region. Renowned folk singer Sarita Tiwari has announced a mission to travel across the villages of the Pisawan development block to provide free training in folk music to women and young girls.

Bridging the Generational Gap

This initiative, launched through the Maa Vindhyavasini Samajik Uddhar Kala Sangam organization, aims to transfer the rich cultural legacy of rural heartlands to the younger generation. The project seeks to create awareness and foster pride in traditional arts that are currently on the verge of extinction.

Expertise Meets Grassroots Activism

Sarita Tiwari is no stranger to the world of classical and folk music. Having received formal education from the prestigious Bhatkhande Music Institute, she is also recognized as a B-Grade artist for both Akashvani (All India Radio) and Doordarshan.

"Folk songs are not merely a source of entertainment; they are a living archive of our society’s traditions, emotions, and core values," says Tiwari.

Phase One: Village Outreach

The training program’s first phase will focus on the villages of Pipri Shadipur, Shivsingh Purwa, and Sasurdipur, along with neighboring localities. Specialized camps will be organized where participants will receive hands-on instruction in:

Vocal Nuances: Mastering the unique style of Awadhi folk singing.

Technical Foundation: Understanding Sur (melody) and Taal (rhythm).

Stage Presence: Techniques for emotional expression and public performance.

Cultural Context: History and significance of songs performed during specific traditional ceremonies.

A Call for Cultural Preservation

Addressing the challenges of the modern lifestyle, Sarita Tiwari emphasized that collective effort is the only way to keep traditional arts alive. She believes that if rural women incorporate these folk songs into their daily lives, the heritage will remain secure for future generations.

By providing a platform and professional guidance to rural talent, this initiative is set to give the folk arts of Awadh a new lease on life.
