Cut Queue Times: Lucknow's Imambara Complex Enters Digital Age With QR Tickets
LUCKNOW: The Hussainabad Allied Trust (HAT) has launched an online ticket booking system featuring QR-based entry across its major heritage monuments, reshaping how visitors experience the city's most iconic attractions.
The digital initiative covers Bara Imambara, the legendary Bhool Bhulaiya, Baoli, Picture Gallery, Chhota Imambara with Shahi Hammam, Satkhanda along with Maqbara Saadat Ali Khan. Visitors can now book tickets in advance through the official website or use self-ticketing kiosk machines installed at select locations for on-the-spot bookings.
The QR-based system enables seamless monument entry, allowing visitors to scan tickets at gates rather than queuing for manual verification. Officials cited growing weekend, holiday while peak season footfall as the reason for modernising crowd management at the complex.
Addressing the congestion challenge
The Imambara complex attracts considerable tourism across Uttar Pradesh, with heritage enthusiasts drawn to its architecture, historical significance, cultural experiences. Bara Imambara's Bhool Bhulaiya, in particular, draws large daily visitor numbers.
The digital ticketing system is designed to reduce counter congestion while distributing visitor flow evenly throughout the day. Advance bookings enable tourists to plan visits better, avoiding last-minute rush.
Self-service kiosks assist those without online access, offering quick on-site alternatives. Authorities stated the system prioritises user-friendly operations, minimising visitor hassle.
Pricing structure
A combined pass covering Bara Imambara, Chhota Imambara, Satkhanda along with Picture Gallery costs Rs 60 for Indian adults, Rs 30 for children. Foreign tourists pay Rs 600 for adults, Rs 300 for children.
Bara Imambara entry, including Bhool Bhulaiya access, Baoli costs Rs 50 for Indian adults, Rs 25 for children. Foreign visitors pay Rs 500 for adults, Rs 250 for children.
Individual monument tickets (Chhota Imambara, Picture Gallery, Satkhanda) are priced at Rs 20 for Indian adults, Rs 10 for children. Foreign tourists pay Rs 200 per adult, Rs 100 per child at each site.
Maqbara Saadat Ali Khan entry is Rs 10. Children above 12 years are charged adult rates. All monuments operate from 6 am to 6 pm.

The move strengthens Lucknow's tourism infrastructure, supporting the city's continued appeal for its Nawabi heritage, culinary traditions, cultural legacy.
Authorities believe digital ticketing aligns with modern travel expectations, where accessibility, time efficiency determine visitor satisfaction. By integrating technology into heritage management, the Trust balances preservation with accessibility.
Tour operators noted the system benefits group travellers, guided tours through pre-booked tickets that save time, maintain schedule efficiency.
