Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSI) in Lucknow has announced a major operational shift, moving all domestic operations from Terminal 2 to the newly integrated Terminal 3 (T3). This transition, set to commence on April 21, aims to streamline operations and enhance passenger experience. Airlines such as Air India, Indigo Airlines, Air India Express, Vistara, Fly Big, Air Asia India, and Star Air, presently operating from Terminal 2, will shift entirely to Terminal 3.
The decision follows Akasa Air's pioneering move to shift operations to Terminal 3 on March 31, 2024. IndiGo, one of the major carriers, also revealed plans to relocate its domestic flights from Lucknow Airport to Terminal 3, effective April 21, 2024, while international flights will continue from Terminal 1. To ensure a smooth transition, IndiGo is actively communicating with affected passengers and travel agents through multiple channels, including SMS, calls, and emails.
According to a spokesperson from CCSI Airport, the shift aligns with their phased strategy to consolidate flight operations at Terminal 3. The spokesperson emphasized that Terminal 1 will continue to handle international operations temporarily. Terminal 3, constructed at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10, 2024. With an initial capacity of 80 lakh passengers annually, Terminal 3's capacity is slated to increase to 1.3 crore passengers annually by the completion of Phase 2. Moreover, the terminal is expected to generate employment for over 13,000 individuals.
Passengers departing from the airport will be directed to use the ramp near Lakshman Circle, while those arriving for pick-up will proceed to the ground floor and head to the arrival area of Terminal 3. The airport authorities are working closely with airlines to ensure a seamless transition, aiming to provide travelers with a world-class experience. The newly constructed apron will significantly enhance boarding facilities, increasing boarding gates from 7 to 13 and boarding bridges from 2 to 7.
Terminal 3 boasts several advanced features, including Digi Yatra, self-service kiosks, automated tray retrieval systems, self-baggage drop, and advanced baggage screening machines. Additionally, passengers will experience a captivating audio-visual journey showcasing the rich art and architecture of the region. Illuminated motifs of 'Chikankari' and 'Mukaish' embroidery, along with graphics depicting tales from epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, will adorn the terminal, promising passengers an immersive experience from entry gates to skylights.
