Indian travellers suffer as Dubai tightens tourist visa rules: What you need to know?

Indian travellers planning to visit Dubai are experiencing a significant rise in visa rejections due to tightened documentation requirements for tourist visas. This trend has led to considerable financial losses, as rejected applications impact not only visa fees but also non-refundable expenses such as flight tickets and hotel bookings.

Dubai's stringent visa policies mean that a rejection can have long-term consequences for future travel. Even well-prepared applications are being declined, with daily rejection rates increasing from 1-2% to 5-6%. Many travelers have voiced their frustration over the issue. For instance, a resident of Pune shared that his Rs 50,000 non-refundable flight booking went to waste after his and his brother’s visas were denied, despite complying with the updated requirements.

With the Dubai Shopping Festival scheduled from December 8 to 14, the stricter visa norms are discouraging many Indian tourists. These new rules, introduced last month by Dubai's immigration department, require applicants to submit proof of hotel bookings and return flight tickets along with their visa applications.

Key Changes to Dubai’s Visa Rules:

1. Confirmed Return Tickets: Applicants must now provide proof of their return flight to show their intention to leave Dubai after their visit. Previously, this was only required during airport checks.

2. Proof of Accommodation: Applicants need to present confirmed hotel bookings or other evidence of their lodging arrangements in Dubai.

3. Proof of Financial Resources: Travelers must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover their trip expenses, such as through bank statements or sponsorship letters.

4. Submission via Authorized Channels: Tourist visa applications can be submitted online or through authorized travel agencies, while visit visas can still be processed by individuals, families, or trading companies. Both categories require the same set of documents.

Travel agents recommend meticulous preparation and compliance with these updated requirements to minimize the risk of rejection and avoid financial losses.
