"All We Imagine as Light," a poignant drama penned and helmed by Payal Kapadia, clinched the prestigious Grand Prix at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, marking a historic win for Indian cinema.

The film had earned its spot in the race for the Palme d'Or and true to its spirit captivated audiences, earning an awe-inspiring eight-minute standing ovation during its world premiere. This feat is a milestone not only for Kapadia but also for Indian cinema, as it marks the first Indian entry in the Cannes main competition since 1994's "Swaham," and Kapadia herself stands tall as the first Indian female filmmaker to achieve this honor. Notably, Chetan Anand's "Neecha Nagar" (1946) remains the sole Indian film to have ever clinched the Palme d'Or.
