In a significant move aimed at elevating passenger experience, Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International (CCSI) Airport has announced the relocation of all international flight operations from Terminal 1 (T1) to the newly inaugurated Terminal 3 (T3), effective from 6 AM on June 8, 2024. This strategic decision marks the culmination of the airport's phased operational shift, which began earlier this year with domestic flights.

Domestic Flights Already Shifted to T3

CCSI Airport officials confirmed that domestic flight operations had already transitioned to T3 on April 21, 2024. This transition followed the inauguration of T3 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10, 2024, and the commencement of operations with Akasa Air on March 31, 2024. The move to consolidate all flight operations at T3 is part of the airport's broader strategy to streamline services and provide a seamless experience for travellers.

Airlines Transitioning to T3

Currently, several major airlines operate their international flights from T1, including Indigo Airlines, Air-India Express, Saudia Airlines, Oman Air, Thai Air Asia, Flynas, Salam Air, and Fly Dubai. As of June 8, these airlines will relocate their operations to T3, aligning with the airport's objective to centralize all flight operations.

Enhanced Facilities at Terminal 3

The newly built Terminal 3 boasts a range of advanced facilities designed to enhance the passenger experience. Key features include Digi Yatra, which facilitates paperless travel, ample check-in counters, common use self-service kiosks, and self-baggage drop stations. Additionally, the terminal is equipped with automated tray retrieval systems, advanced baggage screening machines, baggage reclaim belts, aerobridges, and multiple parking bays for aircraft.

Capacity and Employment Benefits

Constructed at a cost of ₹2,400 crore, Terminal 3 has a capacity to handle 80 lakh passengers per year, which is expected to increase to 1.3 crore passengers annually. The new terminal is also set to provide employment to over 13,000 people, significantly contributing to the local economy.

New Passenger Routes and Facilities

For departing international passengers, access to T3 will be via the ‘Up ramp’ from the Lakshman Circle. Arriving passengers can be received at the ground level of the arrivals section in T3. An international-to-international transfer facility has been developed on the mezzanine floor, enabling seamless onward journeys for passengers traveling via Lucknow.

The airport has also dedicated one aerobridge and one bus boarding gate for arrival and departure, with the flexibility to add another aerobridge if necessary. This setup is designed to accommodate the dynamic needs of international flight operations.

Customer Guidance and Accessibility

To ensure a smooth transition and assist passengers, customer service associates and strategically placed signages will guide travellers towards T3. These will be located at key decision-making points, including the Airport Metro station and the old Terminal 1. A special entry pathway has been created for passengers who might mistakenly arrive at T1, directing them towards T3.

Cultural Welcome at T3

The international security hold area at T3 will offer passengers a cultural immersion experience with ‘Uttar Pradesh ki Jhanki’. This display will feature the traditional mela culture of Lucknow on the ‘Swagat Wall’, along with stories from the Ramayan and Mahabharat epics, showcasing India's rich cultural heritage.

The relocation of international flight operations to Terminal 3 at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is a significant step towards enhancing passenger convenience and experience. With state-of-the-art facilities, increased capacity, and a dedicated effort to celebrate local culture, T3 is poised to become a hub of activity and a symbol of modern aviation excellence in Uttar Pradesh. The airport's comprehensive approach to customer service and operational efficiency underscores its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of travellers and airlines alike.
