Lucknow's IT landscape is set for a significant transformation with major players like Genpact and Sify Technologies gearing up to establish operations in the city. According to reports, these moves come as part of their engagements with the state's IT and ITes department. The American multinational Genpact and Fortune India 500 company Sify Technologies are expected to join existing industry leaders like Tata Consultancy Services and HCL in Lucknow.
State Policies Attract Global Firms
Anil Sagar, principal secretary of IT and electronics, Uttar Pradesh, highlighted the state's attractive industrial development and IT policies, which have drawn interest from these global firms. "The biggies would join the league of Tata Consultancy Services and HCL. Their intent is clear. We are exploring proposals in detail," he stated.
Significant Investment and Job Creation
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Genpact and Sify are planning investments ranging between Rs 400 crore and Rs 800 crore, which could potentially generate 10,000-15,000 job opportunities. Senior representatives from both companies have reiterated their commitment to Uttar Pradesh recently.
Office Locations Identified
Genpact, known for its expertise in business process outsourcing and technology services, is eyeing a plug-and-play office space near Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomtinagar. Meanwhile, Sify Technologies, a major player in network, IT, and software services, is scouting for an office in Gomtinagar Extension.
Additional IT Investments
In addition to these developments, the state government is also pursuing a proposal from Teleperformance SE, a leading French multinational in business process outsourcing, further bolstering Lucknow's emergence as a hub for IT and IT-enabled services.
Shifting Focus to Tier-2 Cities
The trend of IT firms expanding into tier-2 and smaller cities like Lucknow reflects a strategic shift aimed at reducing infrastructure costs and addressing employee preferences for better work-life balance. Cities such as Jaipur, Pune, Coimbatore, and now Lucknow are gaining traction as attractive destinations for IT investments.

Industry experts underscored the significance of this trend, noting the contributions of companies like Cognizant, Infosys, and Accenture in expanding beyond traditional IT hubs. This move aligns with Uttar Pradesh's ambition to achieve a one trillion-dollar economy, with IT and ITes services playing a pivotal role.

Senior officials emphasised that Uttar Pradesh ranks sixth in software exports nationally and provides direct employment to over 1.1 million people in the sector. The state's proactive policy framework aims to attract investments by offering a conducive business environment and tailored incentives.
"A strong foundation in IT and ITes is critical to achieving Uttar Pradesh's economic goals," said Awanish Awasthi, advisor to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. "Our policies are designed to support investments in this sector comprehensively."
