Statue of Unity Sets New Tourist Footfall Record as PM Modi Hails Vallabhbhai Patel's Legacy


The Statue of Unity has emerged as one of India's foremost tourist destinations since its inauguration in 2018, witnessing exponential growth in visitor numbers over the years. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the monument to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 150th birth anniversary, delivering messages of national unity. The day also featured a glorious display of strength and unity by the Indian Air Force.


Tourist Footfall at Statue of Unity


The Statue of Unity has registered remarkable annual increases in tourist footfall, becoming the fastest-growing tourist attraction in India:

  1. 2018: 4.5 lakh visitors (since inauguration on October 31)​
  2. 2019: 27.45 lakh visitors​
  3. 2020: 12.81 lakh visitors (COVID-19 impact)​
  4. 2021: 34.34 lakh visitors​
  5. 2022: 46 lakh visitors​
  6. 2023: 50 lakh visitors​
  7. 2024: Over 58 lakh visitors, breaking all previous records and marking one of the highest yearly footfalls for any monument in India.​


These numbers reflect not only the attraction’s popularity but also its role in boosting local tourism infrastructures with added experiences such as river rafting, Glow Garden, and the Jungle Safari.​



Statue of Unity: PM Modi’s Visit


On October 31, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers and floral tributes at the Statue of Unity to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He participated in the commemorative parade and interacted with officer trainees at the conclusion of Aarambh 7.0.​


During his tribute, he said: "India pays homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th Jayanti. He was the driving force behind India’s integration, thus shaping our nation’s destiny in its formative years."


"His unwavering commitment to national integrity, good governance and public service continues to inspire generations. We also reaffirm our collective resolve to uphold his vision of a united, strong and self-reliant India".​


His statements reaffirmed Patel’s enduring legacy and the nation’s continuing commitment to his ideals.


Indian Air Force Display of Strength


As part of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations, the Indian Air Force showcased a powerful display of discipline and unity. The following highlights marked the event:


  1. The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT), comprising nine aircraft, performed dazzling aerial maneuvers and formations, including the Diamond and Unity formations, painting the sky with the colors of the Indian Tricolour.​
  2. IAF helicopters conducted a ceremonial flower petal drop over the Statue of Unity, honoring Patel’s contribution to India’s unity.​


These displays represented not only technical prowess but also the teamwork and professionalism that the IAF stands for, underlining Patel’s vision of a strong, integrated nation.
